i12 Katong is the seven-storey mall at the junction of East Coast Road and Joo Chiat Road that most people just call “the Katong mall with the cinema.” It draws a steady stream of families for the Golden Village screens, the Cold Storage downstairs, and the wet-and-dry playground on Level 4 — which also makes it a convenient after-school stop if a lesson happens to fall on the same trip.
We swept the full tuition centre database by distance from i12 Katong’s own address rather than trusting how listings happen to be tagged — that catches anything genuinely on-site even if it’s filed under a different area label. Only two came back as actually inside the mall. Katong V, Roxy Square, Parkway Parade and the Marine Parade Central blocks all sit within a few minutes’ walk and have their own tuition clusters, but they’re separate buildings — this list sticks to what’s physically inside i12 Katong itself, no padding.

Each student gets a personalised learning plan built off an initial assessment, aimed squarely at building number sense rather than just getting through more worksheets. It’s the only centre on this list offering a free trial class.

About i12 Katong
The building has been through more names than most malls in Singapore. It opened in late 1983 as Katong People’s Complex, a boxy block with exposed blue pipework that locals didn’t love. A 1995 facade renovation rebranded it Katong Mall, and it changed hands again in 2009 in a $247.55 million en-bloc sale. The mall closed in mid-2010 for a full makeover and reopened in late 2011 under its current name, i12 Katong, with a Peranakan-themed interior that played up the neighbourhood’s heritage.
Keppel came in as a minority investor in 2016 and took full control in 2018. The mall closed again in March 2020 for another round of renovations, had a soft reopening on 23 December 2021, and held its grand reopening on 23 June 2022 with a contemporary redesign that replaced the Peranakan theming. Today it runs to about 207,000 sq ft across seven floors and roughly 160 specialty shops, anchored by CS Fresh, Golden Village, and Wine Connection.
A few things worth knowing if you’re bringing kids along:
- Wet-and-dry playground, Level 4 — useful if a younger sibling is tagging along and needs somewhere to burn energy before or after a lesson.
- Golden Village cinema — for parents killing time during a lesson block, or a reward after.
- CS Fresh supermarket — for the school-night grocery run.
- Nursing rooms on Levels 3 and 4, plus free mall Wi-Fi and device charging points on Level 3.
