Singapore has thousands of tuition centres, prices that vary more than most parents expect, and no simple way to line them up side by side. This directory lists over 1,180 verified tuition centres across 34 areas, and we keep it current. This page is the part that helps you actually decide: how to compare centres, what tuition costs in 2026, when a child should start, what to watch out for, and well-reviewed centres in your area.
It covers everything from preschool enrichment to PSLE prep, O-Level subject help, and A-Level tuition, with a direct link to browse every centre near you. Browse the full tuition centre directory →
How to choose a tuition centre in Singapore
The goal isn’t the “best” centre in some absolute sense. It’s the right fit for your child, your budget, and where you live. These are the things that make the difference, plus the questions that get past the marketing.
What actually matters
- Class size and tutor-to-student ratio. Smaller groups of 4 to 8 give each child more attention. Bigger classes of 15 or more cost less and suit kids who can work on their own.
- Teacher qualifications. Ask whether the tutor is MOE-trained, an ex-school teacher, or a subject specialist. More importantly, ask who will actually teach your child, not just who founded the centre.
- Subject and level focus. A centre built around Primary Math usually does better at it than a generalist that covers everything.
- Distance and MRT access. A centre five minutes away that your child will actually turn up to beats a “better” one across the island that they dread commuting to.
- Price and what’s included. Compare the monthly fee against registration, deposit, and materials, not just the headline number (see the cost section below).
- Trial lessons. A centre worth joining will let you try a class before you commit to a term.
- Track record. Ask for real results and a current parent you can speak to, not a wall of testimonial posters.
Questions to ask before you enrol
Bring this to any centre tour or trial:
- What is the tutor-to-student ratio, and who specifically will teach my child?
- Is there a free or low-cost trial lesson?
- What does the first term actually cost once you add registration, deposit, and materials?
- What is the refund and withdrawal policy if it isn’t working out?
- Are the teaching materials aligned to the current MOE syllabus?
- How do you track and report my child’s progress?
- What happens when my child misses a class?
Group class, 1-to-1, or online?
This depends on your child’s needs, how they learn, and your budget. Here is how the three formats compare.
Tuition centre vs private tutor vs online

| Tuition centre (group) | Private 1-to-1 tutor | Online platform | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class size | 4 to 15 students | Just your child | Varies (self-paced or live) |
| Typical cost | About $220 to $670/month | About $25 to $130/hour | About $130 to $370/month |
| Personal attention | Moderate | Highest | Low to moderate |
| Flexibility | Fixed schedule | Highly flexible | Most flexible |
| Peer learning | Yes | No | Limited |
| Best for | Structured curriculum and steady coverage at a lower price | Fixing a specific weak area, or an exam-year push | Tighter budgets, families far from centres, self-directed kids |
Most families here start with a group centre for steady, affordable coverage, then add a private tutor for one stubborn subject in an exam year. Online platforms make sense as a cheaper top-up or when you live far from the usual centre clusters. Pick the format that fits the problem you’re trying to solve.
Online tuition platforms
Online platforms have grown fast, and for some families they replace a physical centre entirely. They tend to cost less, cut out travel, and give access to specialist teachers who aren’t near you. The trade-off is that a child needs enough self-discipline to learn through a screen. Here are three of the most popular options for Singapore families, each covering a different need.
WuKong
Live online classes, best known for Chinese but also offering Math and English, for ages 3 to 18. Lessons come as 1-to-1 or small groups of two to four, bought as credit packages rather than a monthly subscription. New students get a free trial class.
Fees: roughly US$20 to US$30 per lesson depending on package size (a 12-session Chinese package is about US$349; larger packages bring the per-lesson price down). Prices are in US dollars, so budget for the exchange rate.
Geniebook
A Singapore-born platform that blends AI-generated worksheets, weekly live online classes, and face-to-face “Campus” lessons, with a teacher chat for questions between sessions. Covers English, Math, Science, and Chinese from P1 to Secondary 4.
Fees: $372.50 per subject per month, GST included, billed annually.
Overmugged
A Singapore platform built specifically around the O-Level and A-Level syllabus. One flat subscription covers online lessons across all core subjects, with recordings and weekly resources included.
Fees: $99 per month for 16 to 18 online lessons a month across the core O-Level subjects, which works out to about $5.50 a class.
A quick note on free options: Khan Academy is genuinely free and covers most subjects, though it follows a US syllabus. It’s a solid supplement, even if it won’t mirror the MOE curriculum exactly.
Online platform fees are as of 2026 and can change. WuKong prices are quoted in US dollars. Always confirm current pricing on the provider’s own site.
How much does tuition cost in Singapore?

The average family spends about $104.80 a month
Singapore’s Department of Statistics Household Expenditure Survey 2023 found that resident households spent an average of $104.80 a month on private tuition, up 19% from the previous survey. Total spending reached $1.8 billion in 2023. The spread is wide: the lowest-income fifth of households spent around $36.30 a month, while the top fifth spent $162.60. The Ministry of Education repeated these figures in a February 2026 parliamentary reply (MOE, 2026).
That’s the average. What you pay comes down to level, subject, format, and how established the centre is.
What tuition centres actually charge (2026 rates)
These are published rates from well-known centres, so you have real numbers to compare against:
| Centre | Level | Format | Published fee (2026) |

| The Learning Lab | JC | Small group | ~$669/month |
| Geniebook (online + campus) | P1 to S4 | Per subject | $372.50/month per subject (billed annually) |
Fees are GST-inclusive and current as of 2026. Always confirm directly with the centre. Some centres, including Mavis Tutorial and Learning Point, don’t publish fees and ask you to enquire.
As a rough guide for group tuition: primary runs about $160 to $300 a month, secondary about $240 to $420, and JC about $360 to $580 per subject.
Private home tutor rates by tutor tier
If you’re weighing 1-to-1 tuition instead, here are typical market rates per hour:

|---|---|---|---|
| Lower Primary | $25 to $35 | $40 to $45 | $55 to $70 |
| Upper Primary | $30 to $40 | $45 to $55 | $60 to $85 |

How to keep tuition costs down
- Use the trial lesson before you commit to a term. It’s the cheapest way to avoid paying for a bad fit.
- Group classes cost three to five times less per hour than a 1-to-1 ex-MOE tutor. Keep 1-to-1 for a subject your child is genuinely stuck on.
- Ask about sibling and referral discounts. Plenty of centres offer them without advertising them.
- Lean on free MOE resources. The Student Learning Space and past-year papers are free and follow the syllabus exactly. Not every gap needs paid tuition.
When should your child start tuition?
There’s no universal right age. It comes down to what your child needs, not what their classmates are doing. Here’s how demand tends to line up with the Singapore school journey.
By academic stage
- Preschool (N2 to K2). Optional. Phonics and early reading or numeracy can help, but play-based learning matters more at this age.
- Lower primary (P1 to P3). Build strong foundations, especially in English and Math. Watch for early gaps instead of chasing grades.
- PSLE years (P5 to P6). The most common starting point. Demand jumps as families focus on the PSLE and secondary school placement.
- Secondary and O-Level (Sec 1 to 4). Subject-specific tuition like A-Math and the pure sciences becomes common as the content gets harder and streaming starts to matter.
- JC and A-Level (JC1 to JC2). Specialist tuition in H2 Math, Chemistry, Economics, and GP is widespread, mostly because the two-year timeline is so tight.
Signs your child may benefit from tuition
- Grades slipping despite real effort
- A major exam year coming up (PSLE, O-Level, A-Level)
- A shaky foundation in a core subject that keeps compounding
- Not much help available at home
- Losing confidence or motivation in a particular subject
How to spot a bad tuition centre
Not every centre deserves your money. Watch for these warning signs:
- High-pressure, lock-in packages. A good centre earns your renewal each term rather than forcing a year upfront. Insist on paying term by term, or trying first.
- No trial lesson allowed. If you can’t try before you buy, ask why, and walk away if they won’t budge.
- Vague about who teaches. “Our team” often means a rotating cast of part-timers. Ask for the specific tutor’s name and background.
- Guaranteed-A claims. No honest educator guarantees grades. Ask to see recent results you can verify.
- No refund or withdrawal policy. A reputable centre will put this in writing, so get it in writing before you pay.
- Overcrowded classes. If the “small group” has 20 kids in it, you aren’t getting the attention you’re paying for. Ask for the exact class cap and sit in on a session.

Frequently asked questions
How much does tuition cost in Singapore?
The average household spends about $104.80 a month on private tuition (Department of Statistics, 2023). In practice, group centres charge roughly $160 to $300 a month for primary, $240 to $420 for secondary, and $360 to $580 for JC per subject. Private 1-to-1 tutors run $25 to $130 an hour depending on how experienced they are.
Is tuition necessary in Singapore?
Not for every child. It helps most when there’s a specific gap to close, a major exam coming up, or not much support at home. For a lot of needs, free MOE resources like the Student Learning Space and past-year papers do the job without paid tuition.
What’s the difference between a tuition centre and a private tutor?
A centre teaches in groups of 4 to 15 with a set curriculum, at a lower cost per hour. A private tutor works one-to-one with your child, with fully personalised and flexible lessons, at a higher hourly rate. Plenty of families use a centre for the core subjects and a tutor for the one that won’t budge.
When should my child start tuition?
When there’s a real reason: grades slipping, a weak foundation, or an exam year like the PSLE, O-Level, or A-Level. Starting just because other parents are enrolling rarely helps. P5 and P6 are the most common entry point.
How do I find a good tuition centre near me?
Start with centres in your own town using the area guides above, shortlist by Google rating and subject fit, then sit in on a trial before you commit. Proximity matters more than most parents expect. A nearby centre your child attends every week beats a distant one that’s supposedly better.
Are tuition centres regulated in Singapore?
Centres offering academic instruction have to register with the Ministry of Education as private education institutions. Check that a centre is properly registered and that its tutors’ credentials are what they claim.
How big are tuition centre class sizes?
It ranges a lot. Boutique centres run groups of 4 to 8, while larger chains may put 12 to 15 or more in a class. Ask for the exact class cap, because “small group” gets used loosely.
Do tuition centres offer trial classes?
Most reputable ones offer a free or low-cost trial so you can judge the tutor and the class before signing up for a term. If a centre won’t let you try at all, treat that as a warning sign.
Is online tuition as effective as in-person?
For motivated, self-directed students, it can be just as effective and cheaper. Younger children and anyone who needs closer supervision usually do better in person.
How much does PSLE or O-Level tuition cost?
PSLE-level group tuition (P5 to P6) usually runs $200 to $350 a month per subject, and O-Level (Sec 3 to 4) around $280 to $450 per subject. Specialist and 1-to-1 options cost more.
