Ammiel Wan Academy (Sin Ming)
About Ammiel Wan Academy (Sin Ming)
Ammiel Wan Academy is a specialist mathematics centre at Sin Ming Plaza in the Upper Thomson area, teaching Mathematics and nothing else. The academy runs what it describes as a 12-year through-train curriculum, taking students from Primary 1 all the way to JC 2 within a single teaching approach.
Classes are grouped into stages that follow the local system: Foundation years (Primary 1–2), Development years (Primary 3–4) and Mastery years (Primary 5–6), then Secondary 1–2 and Secondary 3–4 for O-Level Elementary and Additional Mathematics, and JC 1–2 for H2 Mathematics. The Primary 5–6 programme runs in two versions, one tailored to GEP and higher-ability groups and another for the mainstream stream. A separate track covers Integrated Programme (IP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Years 1 to 4.
The centre is led by its principal, Mr Ammiel Wan, who spent 15 years in MOE and served as Head of Department for Mathematics and Dean of Curriculum Studies at Catholic High School, and as Vice-Principal at Rosyth School. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Singapore Teachers and held an MOE Postgraduate Overseas Scholarship. The academy credits him with authoring more than 50 mathematics resource books. Teaching staff include a master teacher, a senior lecturer and several senior teachers; the JC classes are taught by a tutor holding a Master’s in Mathematics from NTU.
Alongside its student classes, the academy also provides curriculum consultancy to schools on the teaching of problem sums.
