Mind Stretcher has been around since 2002 and now runs more than 30 centres islandwide, so the Clementi branch isn’t a one-off outfit — it’s plugging into a chain-wide system. Classes are kept small, generally six to twelve students, and the centre uses its own “Checkpoint” progress-tracking tool to flag gaps early and give parents a clearer picture than a report card alone. It’s a reasonable pick if you want one centre to cover a child right through primary and into the O-Levels.

Yi Xue is a Chinese-only centre, and the team leans on that focus: teachers are full-time, NIE-trained former MOE school teachers, including a former Head of Department for Chinese Language and past oral examiners for PSLE and O-Level Chinese papers. Class ratio is kept to around one teacher per eight students, and lessons are built around PSLE and O-Level answering technique rather than general conversational Chinese. There’s currently no trial class listed, so it’s worth calling ahead to ask about a placement assessment instead.

About Grantral Mall
Grantral Mall sits at 3151 Commonwealth Avenue West, right next to the much larger Clementi Mall, and it’s easy to walk past without registering it as a separate building. The Elegant Group took over the property in 2016, when it was still known as Cityvibe, and rebranded and relaunched it as Grantral Mall @ Clementi. It’s a compact four-storey retail podium with 27 units and a net lettable area of just over 31,000 sq ft — nowhere near the scale of its neighbour, but it packs in a workable mix of tenants for the Clementi crowd, including students from nearby Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, and NUS.
The tenant list leans food-heavy: Captain Kim for Korean barbecue and hotpot, Ayam Penyet President for Indonesian fare, a Sichuan restaurant, a Taiwanese steamboat spot, sushi, and a Mixue bubble tea counter. Scarlett Supermarket, which imports directly from China, covers groceries, and Anytime Fitness and a handful of beauty and wellness outlets round out the rest. On the education side, Mind Stretcher and Yi Xue Learning Centre share the building with Kent Ridge Education Hub and an international-student prep centre — so there’s more studying going on here than the mall’s small footprint would suggest.
Getting to Grantral Mall: MRT & parking
By MRT: Take the East-West Line to Clementi (EW23) and use Exit A. The exit leads onto an air-conditioned overhead bridge that also connects to The Clementi Mall, and Grantral Mall is about a one-minute walk from there.
By bus: The nearest stop is roughly a minute’s walk from the mall and is served by a long list of services, including 14, 52, 78, 96, 105, 106, 147, 154, 156, 189, 201, 5N, NR5, and NR8 — useful if you’re coming from further along Commonwealth Avenue West or Clementi Road.
By car: Grantral Mall doesn’t appear to run its own large dedicated visitor car park the way The Clementi Mall does — we couldn’t find published on-site parking rates anywhere, including on the mall’s own website. Given it’s a one-minute walk from Clementi MRT Exit A, taking the train is genuinely the easier option. If you are driving, the nearest paid parking is the basement car park at The Clementi Mall next door, or the HDB car parks serving the Clementi Ave 3 shops a short walk away — check the rate board on arrival, since neither is run by Grantral Mall itself.
